As you reminisce through the photographs of your wedding or clean the enlarged version of your wedding photo on the frame your mind is filled with nostalgia. The place, time and venue just circles back to the feeling of love and fulfillment. The same desire is to secretly fit back into the old wedding gown which you must have preserved in the closet. As memories cannot be locked so also it is not appropriate to lock up the wedding gown and trousseau sets in a trunk.

The dress may not fit you or it may just not be in fashion but there are sentiments attached to it and hence preserving the gown is important. A well preserved gown would be a treat for your kids when they grow up. For simple preservation of the gown make sure to buy the case to store in. Air the fabric and clean the same with a dependable laundry. Do not use fabric whiteners or cleaners as they may damage the details. In case the embellishment is tearing off or you notice a discoloration, then use the services of experts who are ready to restore the dress for you.

‘A stitch in time saves nine’ holds good for the dress. Keep the dress by checking it occasionally. Do not try and stitch the same at home as it will end up as tacky. Check for the layering and inner linings as these are the ones that are first to wear off. The expert cleaners also wrap the dress in a certain fashion that preserves the garment and all the potential harm is protected with chemicals. This though expensive is a personal choice of preserving the dress.

Climate can be severe for dresses. Just the way you air the woolens and silks, make it a point this spring to bring the dress in pleasant sunlight. Dry clean the tea stains or other smudges as this is a special item. Fold the dress in the right way so that the details are not pressed. Hanging or two fold is preferable depending on your wardrobe possibility. Check for fasteners, lace works and embellishments. Accessories like veils, head pieces and tiara should be neatly placed in cases. Jewelry is best retained in pouches and jewelry boxes. The antique jewelry box many times comes in handy owing to large storage.

As you fold up you wedding gown and prepare for the honeymoon, send instructions to a trusted person to laundry you priceless gown. Inspect the cleaning yourself as stains if present for long get stubborn. Use tissues of special wrapping quality that protect the folds and bodices. Do not use mothballs or other chemicals near the gown. Use cotton liners inside the gown.

Detach buckles, metal fasteners or shoulder pads as the cause pressure on the fabric. Even in a bad storage plan, do not keep the dress in the attic or tightly shut in the luggage. Air circulation is important. It would be a surprise if your daughter would want to wear the outfit as fashion always makes a comeback.
